October AIDS Awareness Month Activities

Volunteer Mark Lager appears in front of quilts on display

October AIDS Awareness Month began early this year. On Sunday, September 27, Rev. Carolyn Bjerke invited us to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Santa Paula for their morning service.

In addition to our Quilt display, QPGC VP Mark Lager addressed the congregation with a history of both the National AIDS Memorial Quilt and our local Gold Coast Quilt (see photo below).

On October 14 QPGC will be setting up an altar in memory of some of those whose Quilts grace the Broome Library, with biographies and additional display materials provided by CSUCI students.

Also on October 14, the Quilt will have a booth at the Moorpark Student Health Fair, with information on HIV / AIDS as well as condoms and literature.

On October 29 there will be a reception for QPGC at CSUCI. And on Nov. 1, several Quilt panels will adorn UU Church of Ventura’s Dia de los Muertos altar.
