The President’s Column – Summer 2026

Gold Coast Quilting members goof off at a recent meeting.

Quilt Project Gold Coast (QPGC) had a productive June Pride Month, showing AlDS Memorial Quilts and raising awareness about HIV/AIDS.

QPGC was at Camarillo Pride on Jun. 6, Santa Ynez Valley Pride in Solvang Jun. 13, and up to Atascadero Pride June 14.

Also on the 14th, Cindy Copeland Burrell coordinated a Beginner’s Quilting Bee workshop at the Camarillo Public Library with help from fellow board members Celia Ortenberg and Ron Oehler. QPGC Vice President Mark Lager gave a PowerPoint presentation on the history of AIDS Memorial Quilts

QPGC also received proclamations from the City of Santa Barbara on June 9 and the City of Ventura on June 3, as well as taking part in its flag raising for Pride Month on June 11.

This July, Quilt Project has collaborated with the City of Santa Barbara, the Santa Barbara Downtown Library and the local chapter of the Prime Timers group for a Quilt display in the Faulkner Gallery through the end of July. The entire gallery is devoted to AIDS Memorial Quilts made by our dedicated volunteers. Many thanks also to Pacific Pride Foundation for their assistance.

The Faulkner display is the largest-ever indoor Quilt showing by QPGC in Santa Barbara County. If you are in Downtown Santa Barbara in July, stop by and see this very moving exhibit, which would not be possible without the many volunteer hours of hand stitching of each Quilt over the past eight years.

On July 25 we will have a booth at Ventura Pride. On August 22 QPGC will be showing all of our Quilts in collaboration with Pacific Pride Foundation in a special exhibit at the Santa Barbara Pride at the Beach festival.

We have also been meeting with Cal State University at Channel Islands in Camarillo, and will be displaying for the first time at CSUCI at the Broome Gallery of their library for the month of September leading to October AIDS Awareness Month, with a reception to mark the exhibit.

Watch for more details in the next edition of The Stitch’n Times, as well as our full autumn schedule of events, including Nov. 15 when we will return to Paddy’s Bar for another edition of Drag Queen Bingo to benefit our nonprofit.
